Superlative Degree

A. Pengertian Superlative Degree

    Apa itu superlative degree ? adalah suatu perbandingan dalam bahasa Inggris yang menyatakan perbandingan yang sangat/paling dibanding dengan lainnya. Misalnya, dia murid yang sangat pandai di kelas ini. Diartikan dengan kata "paling" menandakan bahwa yang dibandingkan haruslah lebih dari dua hal, bisa tiga atau lebih, atau dalam sebuah kelompok, dan sebagainya.  

B. Fungsi Superlative Degree

    Apa fungsi dari superlative degree ? Memiliki fungsi sebagai pernyataan yang mengungkapkan suatu perbandingan yang bersifat sangat/paling dibandingkan dengan hal lain yang dibandingkan. Tidak hanya berfungsi untuk menyatakan perbandingan suatu sifat hal yang paling baik, tetapi juga berlaku unutk sifat yang paling buruk. Misalnya, dia sangat pandai tetapi juga sangat ceroboh di rumah ini. 

C. Penggunaan Superlative Degree

    Bagaimana cara penggunaan superlative degree ? Perbandingan digunakan dengan cara tertentu sesuai dengan pola dan rumus yang berlaku. Hal tersebut diperuntukan agar dapat dibedakan dengan perbandingan lainnya. Untuk itu perlu dicermati ketentuan, pola, dan rumusnya.

D. Rumus Superlative Degree

    Rumus dan polanya ane bagi menjadi dua, yaitu :

1. Untuk adjective 1 suku kata

  • The + Adjective + est

2. Untuk adjective lebih dari 1 suku kata

  • The + Most + Adjective
  • The + Least + Adjective

3. Berlaku untuk keduanya

  • Of the three/four/etc (di awal kalimat) 

E. Ketentuan Penggunaan Superlative Degree

    Berikut ini merupakan ketentuan penggunaannya dalam sebuah kalimat.
  • Digunakan untuk menyatakan sifat paling tinggi atau paling rendah dari suatu kelompok lebih dari 2 orang.
  • Jika ada of the three/four/etc maka sudah pasti menggunakan superlative degree.
  • Harus menggunakan awalan "The" (the most ..., the least ...,etc)

F. Contoh Superlative Degree

  • She is the smartest student in this class.
  • I know if you are the most handsome boy here.
  • After lose 5 times, our team is the weakest in this season.
  • Of the four cars I just bought, the red one is the most favorite.
  • The book that he bought is the cheapest in the store.

    a. more expensive 
    b. most expensive

    d. the more expensive

2. He is ... boy among us.
    a. the smart

    d. the smarter

3. If I am ... in the class, I will go with her.

4. The table that my father bought is ... in the home.
    a. more cheap

    d. the cheapest

5. Anto is known as .... in the school.
    a. most diligent teacher
